Bob & Nina Lundgren in 2022

About Us

The “Bo” of Bonina is “Bob” Lundgren, DVM.  Besides being a cutter and veterinarian, he loved to run grass cattle and hosting the Washington Cattlemen’s Association Bull tests at Bonina.  Bob managed the Bonina events including bull sales, a trail challenge and cutting shows held throughout the year. He had a passion for feed value and livestock nutrition, which lead him to developing Bonina’s line of superb equine supplements.

Bob built a home and a top-notch cutting horse facility in sunny Eltopia, Washington. He designed the cattle feeding operation to compliment the cow cutting business and formulated nutritional products for his horses and cattle. He gave it his all to create Bonina. Bob passed away October 6,2022. Nina is thankful for the pathways he opened, his encouragement, support and guidance. Bob always said, “It won’t be easy, but it’s available!” She has picked up the reins and is riding on!

The “Nina” in Bonina is a NCHA Members Hall of Fame inductee who takes great pride in training young horses and coaching students to ride and show.  She is the inspiration for several clinics and events throughout the year.  There are several cutting shows, Trail/Ranch Versatility clinics each year, a Trail Challenge, and a Cutting Campout in Ukiah, Oregon, to name just a few of the constant flow of horse and cattle events at Bonina.

The Bonina breeding program has produced nearly all of the Lundgren show horses.

If you like to talk about, learn about, sell, buy or watch good horses…we have a lot in common. We welcome visitors to stop by to see the horses and facilities and attend the events.   If you are traveling and need a place to spend the night or would like to rest your road weary horses, stalls and hook-ups are available.  You are welcome to stay with us at Bonina.

We always welcome new and familiar faces!

2017 NCHA MEMBER HALL OF FAME – Nina Lundgren

Nina Lundgren of Eltopia, Washington, is a lifetime member of NCHA who is known for creating and producing special events to attract new cutters and encourage existing cutters to stay hooked into the sport. Her signature events include the Wild Women of the West Weekend where women learn about cutting and share their challenges; the annual Ukiah Cutting Campout; the Climb Aboard a Cutter Contest for folks who have never shown a cutter; the Thankful to be Cutting event the weekend before Thanksgiving; as well as numerous clinics held at Bonina Event Center with trainers in several disciplines and multiple states.

“It is a very prestigious award in our sport and I feel humbled to have received it,” Nina said. When Lewis Wrey, NCHA President, called with the news that she had won, his words astounded her.

He said, “The NCHA Rider Hall of Fame is for riders who have won money and taken from NCHA. The NCHA Member Hall of Fame is for members who have given to NCHA!

“I felt tremendously complimented. To this day, giving to NCHA, to the cutters and to the sport is what I live for. My passion is to build better horses, guide riders to be the best they can be and to create events to showcase cutting horses on cattle.”
