All horses raised at Bonina have been consistently supplemented with Bob’s formulation of vitamins and minerals, called FREEDOM (broodmares and youngsters) and Oxy-Equine (working horses). When fed to the pregnant broodmares and to the colts throughout their lives, the incidence of DOD (Developmental Orthopedic Disease) is greatly reduced. In fact, to our knowledge no horse raised at Bonina has ever been inflicted with DOD.

Updated August 2010 We enjoy all our horses, but can’t keep ‘em all! It’s a labor of love to train and show the great horses we have raised. The 3-year-old crop is ready to enter the show pen and there is simply not enough trailer space to haul everyone. Some of them have to go. Here’s your chance to find a horse to show. Come by and take a look. Plan to also see the youngsters with incredibly bright futures. |

Nina Lundgren is now accepting cutting horses to train and show. Patience, cattle, cow sense, timing, talent – training tools for building great cutting horses. Horse Training and communicating with a horse is an art that requires many, many hours of patient repetition. Horses have distinct differences in the way they think, in their confomation and way of moving. Horses are taught to not do what comes naturally, but to trust, respect and obey their riders. Building a Cutting Horse takes more than just “seeing” a lot of cattle. The trainer must know how, when and why a horse should move and stop. Training requires walking the fine line between asking for enough action and avoiding scaring the horse with too much pressure. It requires a combination experience, compassion, ability, timing, balance, self control, facilities, access to cattle and prior opportunity to ride and show great horses. Showing a Cutting Horse successfuly is a team effort involving the competitor, his horse, his trainer and the herd help. The trainer is there to talk about strategy, guide the rider through the run and help with cattle selection. Working together, we can all have fun! Starting Colts, Rope and Riding Horses. Ty Sumner, former saddle bronc rider has years of experience working with young horses, building their confidence, making them unafraid and supple. He has a soft manner and is willing to give a horse the extra time he needs. We work hard at Bonina. Nina has NCHA lifetime cutting earings of $315,000+ and has experience showing and training weekend and limited age event horses. At Bonina, we combine that experience with cattle, patience and the ability to communicate. Our goal is to build horses and riders to become the best they can be. |
